1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add the warm milk and melted butter, and mix until smooth. Add the beaten egg and mix well.
2. Gradually add the remaining flour and ground cinnamon, mixing until a soft dough forms. Stir in the currants or raisins.
3. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
4. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place on a greased baking tray. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). To make the cross, mix the flour and water to form a paste. Pipe the paste in a cross shape on top of each bun.
6. Bake the buns for 15 minutes, or until golden brown. While the buns are baking, prepare the glaze by heating the sugar and water in a small saucepan until the sugar dissolves.
7. Brush the hot glaze over the warm buns as soon as they come out of the oven. Let cool on a wire rack.
